Terrazzo Centrepiece Casting Workshop | Birmingham
On the 27th of October 2021 we are running a three-hour casting workshop, where you learn the basics of casting with Jesmonite and create a bespoke terrazzo centerpiece. The workshop will run across the course of three hours 18:00 - 21:00. For this Birmingham workshop, we will be hosted by the beautiful Isherwood & Co.
What you will do
During the workshop, you will design your colour palette, learn how to mix and add pigment to Jesmonite, learn how to cast into a silicone mould and finally how to sand and finish your centrepiece.
Because the materials we are working with will need some time to set, there will be some natural breaks during the session where you will either be watching the next segment of the workshop being demonstrated or enjoying some local delights.
We will primarily work with Jesmonite, which is a gypsum-based eco-resin. It is non-toxic with no VOC’s. We will also use some water-based pigments and wax for finishing.
By the end of the workshop, you will take home a finished centrepiece. This will include your own unique colourway, designed and created by you. We will finish with felt pads for easy use on any surface.
Because of the time restraints of the workshop, we will finish your centrepiece with a wax, this adds a light layer of protection whilst bringing your colours to life, however, this is not as resistant to stronger liquids such as coffee or wine
The workshop will take place over the course of three hours, in this time you will be asked to complete three main elements: casting, sanding and finishing. There will be a short break two-thirds of the way through to allow for drying of the work during which refreshments will be provided.
